On March 2 & 3, 2019, over a hundred musicians and dancers, poets and writers, visual artists, performance and stand-up artists, theatre practitioners and film makers, will all gather at the Red Fort, Delhi, in a wave of creative expression, in defence of democracy, and against hate. They will perform, share poetry, show their films and exhibit their art installations over the two days.
Culture is the glue that binds diverse peoples together, a space where we discover shared aspects of humanity, a history of belonging and a spiritual exploration of ourselves. On the historic grounds of the 15th August Park a spirited expression of these values will come up, with multiple stages, and spaces for the showcasing of the work of the creative community. Entry to the two day event is free and open to all.
Artists Unite! is an autonomous, self-funded platform of writers, artists, and cultural practitioners from across India. More than 700 writers, artists, and cultural practitioners have already signed a Declaration, available here.
Given the scale of the event we need considerable financial resources, and without any political, institutional or corporate funding we need your monetary support. Apart from the expenses on creating multiple stages and a first rate sound system, we also have to provide quality video projection, as well as proper security, sanitation, and drinking water. Everything adds up.
At this critical moment in the life of our country we re-dedicate ourselves to defend a culture that speaks of equality and solidarity. We will fight hate with love. We will counter violence with peace. Through images, speech, words, music, and our bodies, we will resist the cultural assault on India.
Your donation will make this coming together of artists in resistance possible!
